MEET OUR TEAM

Kyle Smith

I graduated from Valley City University in 1989 and then received my Physical Therapy degree from University of North Dakota in 1991. My first Physical Therapy job was with St. Lukes Midland in Aberdeen, SD where I spent my time rotating through acute care, rehab, sports medicine and spinal clinics.

I moved to Valley City, ND in 1993 after taking a job with Mercy Hospital and treated a wide variety of patients with an emphasis on outpatient orthopedics.

In 1997, I purchased Central Dakota Physical Therapy (now Summit Physical Therapy and Sports Performance) in my hometown of Carrington, ND and have been the owner/director since.

I am Graston and Myofascial Cupping certified and I am also trained in the McKenzie Method of spinal evaluation and treatment. I have taken continuing education courses in ergonomics and wound care as well as attending various orthopedic seminars and the Sanford Power Sports Medicine Symposium for several years. I enjoy treating a wide variety of patients with a special interest in wound care and orthopedics.

My wife and I have 3 children: Brady, Payton and Brynn.

Julie Pate

I received my degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada (June of 1995). I always knew I wanted to work in the medical field, and ultimately decided to pursue the rehabilitation avenue. I started as a full-time Physical Therapist in Carrington in 2003.

My first move after graduation was to Louisiana, where I initially worked in a hospital setting, treating both inpatients and skilled nursing patients. My second position was at a non-profit outpatient facility, where many patients were school-aged. I also worked with clients via Home Health services.

My move to North Dakota was partially motivated by wanting to live closer to my family, all of whom are Canadian. After interviews in two of the larger cities in the state, I realized that I was drawn back to my childhood experience of smalltown living. We now have a rural home which is often mistaken for a ‘hobby farm’ due to the number and variety of animals on the property I My husband Jeff and daughter Kaylin and I love to travel, including recently taking up camping on the weekends.

I especially enjoy the interpersonal aspect of therapy, both as far as meeting people as well establishing relationships with reoccurring patients. I find it very rewarding to be a part of someone’s recovery from a surgery, injury or chronic condition. Seeing someone return to being fully independent at home or competitive in varsity sports, being able to provide pain-relief, heal wounds or decrease a person’s risk of falling- how fulfilling it is to be contribute to making a difference in someone’s daily life.
